Collection of Household Bio-Medical Waste

Kerala-LoGE is launching a specialized initiative to collect and safely dispose of household bio-medical waste, ensuring public health and environmental safety. This project will focus on collecting waste such as used syringes, expired medicines, sanitary napkins, and other medical disposables directly from households.

To implement this, Kerala-LoGE will collaborate with Local Self Government Institutions (LSGIs), healthcare organizations, and waste management agencies. Households will be provided with specially designated disposal bins, and trained personnel will conduct regular collections. The collected waste will then be transported to authorized bio-medical waste treatment facilities for safe incineration or sterilization.

Key benefits of the project:

  • Public Health Protection: Prevents the spread of infections and reduces the risk of bio-hazard exposure in communities.
  • Environmental Safety: Ensures hazardous medical waste is disposed of in compliance with regulatory standards, preventing soil and water contamination.
  • Ease of Disposal: Provides an accessible and systematic solution for households to dispose of medical waste responsibly.
  • Support to Healthcare Sector: Complements healthcare facilities by reducing bio-medical waste disposal burdens and streamlining safe waste management.

By implementing this project, Kerala-LoGE aims to create a safer, healthier, and more environmentally responsible waste management system in Kerala.
